On sundays we bake.

Ever since we got together, living in the same household, I mean, my husband and I have reserved our sundays for cooking sprees. On our first home we used to throw lavish dinner parties on saturdays - and we spent those afternoons cooking up a storm, after spending the morning on shopping sprees - taht could go on into the wee hours of the night, which meant that on sunday morning we were usually too tired and lazy to do anything at all, and ended up spending our sundays inside our cozy pj's, cleaning saturday night's mess, and cooking for the week ahead. We bake our own bread, and back in those days we did not yet own our bread making machine, so we did it all by hand. It was batch after batch of warm, soft, crusty bread, that we then froze so we could use it all through the week. The same went for soups. We did a huge pot of soup every sunday and it lasted us a whole week - and it is sooo easy to freeze the soup, and so practical!! We also baked some quiches that served as daily lunch for my husband to take to work - I was on a fruit and veg for lunch diet at that time, and in the colder months we also baked a cake or two. So it became a habit of ours to warm up the whole house with scents of freshly baked something on a sunday. We might bake some cornbreads, or Irish soda breads, we might go for a lasagna or a pizza - from scratch!! - but mostly, we bake cakes!

After we became proud parents to our little guy, we did not change the habit, and as the kid has shown a knack and love for cooking and for food in general - though he is a peckish eater and takes forever to finish his meals - we found that when the weather is lousy, heavy with rain and wind, and cold bursts outside, it is a great idea to just head off to the kitchen and bake something with his help. It keeps him entertained, it keeps him busy, it teaches him all kinds of things - my husband is guilty of trying to explain to him cooking processes in terms of physics! - and we chat as a family, something I find so important, and so underrated. Most families hardly have enough time to just chat amongst themselves, just for the sake of making conversation. So many good things can come out of those sunday afternoon chats, and with us it reinforces the certainty of being loved by one another. So we bake. This sunday it was a chocolate carrot cake, with orange zest. I love carrot cake, might be my go to comfort cake, I think. But I also love a good chocolate cake. So what better thing to do but to combine the both, with the added joy of the orange zest that sings in your tastebuds and makes everything feel like spring?

    1. Nope, fotos de mim não volta a haver, e por enquanto mantém-se assim. Se a legislação relativamente a cyberbullying em Portugal fosse mais avançada, talvez, mas estando as coisas como estão em termos legislativos neste país, nope.
