Happy Hour

I'm not much of a cocktail maker, although I own my own shaker and all, as I lack the palate to come up with yummy drinkable recipes, despite the fact that I do enjoy partaking of certain drinks. I like margaritas the most, because of the salt rimmed glass, I think, but I am also a fan of a good piña colada, a mojito and a caipirinha. Strange as it seems, despite the fact that I am in no way a fan of South America - neither in terms of culture nor gastronomy, nor do I have a desire of visiting the South American countries - my fave cocktails are indeed things that call up to the imagination that region of the world.

One thing I do like, and it is one of my fave things to enjoy before dinner, are sweet wines, les vins liqueureuses. Portugal excells in the making of these, we have Port wine, Madeira, Moscatel and my personal favourite Nucho de Pegões, which is a sweet amber coloured liquid, that is best served chilled and with orange, even though lemon works quite well, too. When the day is coming to its end, and the late afternoon heat is filling my home, with the sun going down, dinner cooking away by itself on my stove, nothing beats sitting down in my kitchen and sipping on a small portion of this heavenly drink...
