P'tit pot

The early morning light is already darkened by the coming season, and there's a definite chill in the morning air that still gets subdued by the warm rays of sunshine, as soon as they break through. A light jacket is at hand on a hanger by the door, as one leaves the warmth of cozier homes, only to be set aside after a brisk walk. The clothes are still summery light, and their colours still verging on those soft, muted pastels, or bright flowery pinks. There's still a cadence in the air that speaks of lazy heat waves, slow living, sea bathing, and blossoms all over.

One still craves light foods, salads and fruit galore, some shellfish and seafood, but at the same time, our tastebuds scream for warmer meals, casseroles cooking over the burner for hours on end, fragrant with spices that are redolent of late October evenings, as one sits at the kitchen table, over a glass of red wine that helps to unwind after a week of stress and toil. The rithm of life has already changed, and yet we still cling on to those small details that grab Summer and keep it with us, just a little longer, just for a while. We're eager to welcome Fall, and yet reluctant to see Summer leave us for another year. And we keep it close to us in small vignettes of a light coloured palette, as we see light fading earlier and earlier in the still soft evenings, in the still mellow warmth of a September aprés midi. We linger on with Summer in our minds, and have trouble letting go, but deep down our souls are craving for falling leaves, and golden sunsets, and hazy mornings, and oven baking, and mittens and cozy wooly sweaters, as long as we can keep inside the memory of Summer mornings with the birds singing high outside our window, and the bright sunlight piercing into the bedroom, waking us from our slumbers with a hint of energy and bliss.

As Summer slowly bids us goodbye, it is time to cherish the last rays, and indulge in some light, sugary colours, with a hint of Fall already on its wake.
