The Christmas Blog Edition - Golden milk and cranberry brioche and a bout of the flu
I'm gonna keep this one short and basically to the point, seeing that I have been hit by the flu and am having a hard time of it. Can't breathe, all body is aching, nose is running, throat is itching, patience is no existing and I don't even want to lie in bed reading, as my eyes are all feverish and burning, and leaking water like a burst pipe. Been a while since I have had it sp hard, know what I mean? I am good for nothing much at the moment, but I did want to post this ne before the weekend.
Outside is drizzling and dark, today's a bank holiday here in Portugal, home is all cosy and warm, with the lights on and the Christmas decors all around. It does look lovely, and makes me feel all fuzzy inside, all comfortable and infused my the spirit of magic. Even if I'm lying on the couch watching episode after episode of the X-Files with my nine year old. Yeah, not content with hooking him on Star Wars, I had to show him the X-Files and 'Allo,' Allo, to dire consequences, as he now loves both. I swear I did not remember how bloody inappropriate some of the jokes on 'Allo, 'Allo were... the worst part is he gets most of the kokes, but some he obviously doesn't and then he asks. I tell him they're not age appropriate and he's fine with it, bless him!
I wanted to go into the kitchen and bake, today, but have now come to accept it's not gonna happen. I don't have the strenght for it, so am going to post this one and retire onto the couch, try to get some rest, maybe even some sleep, although my breathing does not allow for that. Nor does my nearly bleeding nose. It's hell, I tell ya. I really wanted to bake a special sweet bread and am not gonna do it. Been caught up by this flu for three days already and it feels far from getting any better, only seems to get worse. At least the kiddo is pulling out fine. We did manage to bake something nice earlier this week, when we were both at the first stages of this flu and thought it was just a simple colf. Ah, how wrong we were!!
So, and without any further ado, here is the recipe for these lovely brioche buns with cranberries and golden milk:
- 125 ml milk
- 2, 3 threads of saffron
- 10 gr fresh yeast
- 50 gr butter
- 100 gr spelt flour
- 200 gr strong bread flour
- 1/2 cup dried cranberries
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp muscovado sugar
- 1 egg + 1 egg yolk for eggwash
Get better fast <3 Tonigit I drink a lot of hot tea as I feel that cold is coming to me as well. Oh and I love Allo Allo :D I used to loooove watching it, so funny.
